This reflects that there is non adequate security cheque for bad workers of Merbatty. Besides on the other manus shows that the working guideline is non perform purely. When employees are injured during occupation, it may do unhappiness and fright in workers around the on the job environment. Employees may be hesitating to go on with the undertaking environing the inflectional morphology topographic point. Therefore would damage the morale of employee. Thereafter, Merbatty has to manage the aftercare works with utmost cautious because the populace, including the brotherhood, are following really closely on the issue. Once the public consider the company makes improper actions, it will convey serious amendss to the image and repute of the company. In November 2009, 6 workers were unluckily fall down from a faulty lift and caused decease during the building procedure of the International Commerce Centre in Hong Kong. The d eceasedââ¬â¢s households urged the developer, Sun Hung Kai Properties, to explicate the accident. The developer non simply provided no account but besides tried to cover the renters in nearby. Such improper managing drawn the choler of the populace, the brotherhood so raised presentations to knock the unscrupulous of the Sun Hung Kai Properties.4.1.2 Solutions1. Merely to let go of a compensation to Paulo and to cover the accident to the populace. 2. A late hull deliver would give a bad repute to the concern. However, Topcrest offered a sensible compensation to Merbatty, which can work out the merbattyââ¬â¢s short term fiscal jobs. For illustration, a figure of little parts such as chemical coating or adhesive agents such as capacitive providers frequently have to confront Apple ââ¬Ës demanding demands and forcing for lower monetary values. Apple will inquire the makers ââ¬Å" if they have the ability to make this? Or we will happen another provider, â⬠It can normally coerce providers into entry. Confronting such a big individual concern, the bulk of providers will be pushed to the bound of th e production line, and Apple can therefore cut down costs. This is in fact the bulk of big companies control the agencies of cost. Furthermore, for case iphone 6 needed sapphire glass for the phone. There is non a batch of companies sell sapphire glass in the universe and making the criterions of Apple is more hard. This shows Apple has no better trades from other companies, merely like Merbatty has no better options than Topcrest.4.3.2 Solving the jobMerbatty could take another hull provider.Merbatty can accept the offer by Topcrest. In the interim, Merbatty can happen other more dependable providers. If Topcrest and Merbatty have a contract and Topcrest failed to finish the offer which includes good quality and warrant no late bringing, Merbatty can action for breach of contract and possible get more compensation. The compensation they get can put on other dependable providers.4.3.3 RecommendationShort term Finding other providers in such short clip would be hard, hence Merbatty should accept the offer by Topcrest. They have good quality of hulls and besides would give compensate for the hold. If Merbatty decides to happen other providers, they can non vouch that the hulls would get on clip and they would hold a higher loss. Long term Merbatty should happen more different providers and negotiate to hold the best trade for the hereafter. They can trust on more providers and avoid late bringing. 4.3.4 Problem Solution 2 should be the best option to work out the job. First, it can work out the job instantly that hull has non plenty to utilize in Merbatty. Second, Merbatty can still happen better providers to avoid the job in the hereafter in the interim.Proposalsanalysis5.1 New design provider for 3rd boat edifice installation5.1.1 Background of proposalThe 3rd boat edifice installation located in Surania was approved by Merbatty Board on March 2012. Lukas Dian has provided the background information of two possible design companies that willing to work for the new Surania Facility, the Merbatty has to do the pick.5.1.2 Discussions1. Cooper DesignCooper Designs is a Western European multinational boat interior design concern company. It has a new office which is located in Dubaria, 200 stat mis off from the Suranian boat edifice installation. It is a successful designing company supplying high quality services and its designs are winning the best modern design awards. Furthermore the Coope r make full usage of computing machine assisted design techniques ( CAD ) and provides an extranet service leting clients to remotely see the current design for their boat at any clip. 2. Arabian Insides Arabian Interiors is a four year-old company but it has won acknowledgment at the 2013 Dubaria international boat show for the best Arabian designed boat inside. The companyââ¬â¢s employees are local people who are good educated and full trained in the usage of the latest CAD systems.5.1.3 RecommendationsFor suggestion to Merbatty, it is a good manner for it to take the Arabian Interiors. Although it has been founded for four old ages, it already got an award from the 2013 Dubaria international boat show. The hazard of utilizing this interior decorator is lower because the employees are well-training to the latest Cad system.5.2 Gross saless staff employment issue5.2.1 Background of the proposalThe Merbatty gross revenues manager, Mr. Stefan Gil and HR manager Marie Lopp had discussed about employ gross revenues staff as oppose to agents.5.2.2 Discussions1. Opinion of Mr. Gil Gross saless agents are more motivated to sell the merchandises. And most of the boat merchandising concerns have been used this for twelvemonth and Merbatty should seek to maintain the state of affairs if there is no profitable issues. 2. Opinion of Miss Lopp The growing of Merbatty boatsââ¬â¢ monetary value presents are more low-cost by the clients. Most of the mark market of agents are non the same as Merbattyââ¬â¢s mark while the gross revenues staff of Merbatty can indicating to the companyââ¬â¢s chief market.5.2.3 RecommendationIt is a good suggestion to maintain the state of affairs now as agents have their ain client dealingss that Merbatty do non hold at this minute, it may cut down its fight and diminish the gross revenues of merchandises if Merbatty lost its gross revenues agents.Ethical issues6.1 Rushing boat issueIn the instance, Jesper involves his opportunism to asseverate himself on the concern and is non objectivity plenty. Without any confirmed analysis and grounds, Jesper assert that there will be a excess gross revenues of the P-3000. Thus would set the stockholders on a high hazard to loss.6.2 Subsequently bringing from Topcrest issueIn the instance, the late bringing from Topcrest would impact the repute of M erbatty because therefore may do a late bringing of Merbatty to its clients. The careless of Topcrest shows that it merely base on its ain involvement and neglect the honestness between Topcrest and Merbatty.MentionNg, Maggie. How far is it applicable to management and employee motivation in contemporary Chinese organizations? Essay
Critically evaluate McGregorââ¬â¢s Theory X and Theory Y. How far is it applicable to management and employee motivation in contemporary Chinese organizations? During the 1960s the number of psychologists invented motivational theories, which aimed to increase organizationsââ¬â¢ productivity. One of those is McGregorââ¬â¢s Theory X and Theory Y, in which he claimed that people can be managed in two extremes, based on the grounds of their needs. After publishing his work had a significant impact on management ideas. Head (2011) states, that in present days, his approaches of management can be successfully applied in different countries, as well as in China. However, despite the modernization of modern working environment in China, there are still the number of hardships that make the adaptation of his theories complex and difficult. From the year of publication, McGregorââ¬â¢s work made a significant influence on the management philosophy. Most of the management books include his theory as an example of the substantial step of management insights (Jastolka, 2009). It was stated by Head (2011), that most of the managers prefer to use one of those, instead of other approaches. Later, after McGregorââ¬â¢s publication the contribution for a deeper research of laborââ¬â¢s motivation was made. Also, McGregorââ¬â¢s work persuaded managers to believe that employeesââ¬â¢ behavior can be predicted using scientific metho ds. Afterwards the research has been conducted, therefore the deeper understanding of humanââ¬â¢s motivation can be gained (Head, 2011). The appliance of both methods can be successful, depending on which sphere the company is specializing in. According to Bobic and Davis (2003), adaptive approach, or Theory X works with highly routine and detailed tasks. Additionally, it is more appropriate for firms with bureaucratic structures (Kirton, 1978; cited in Bobic and Davis, 2003). Such organizations have hierarchical systems with clearly distinguished responsibilities and roles. Regarding to the innovative technique, or Theory Y, it responds more efficiently with complicated tasks that require special skills (Sorensen, 2011). In spite of listed advantages, McGregorââ¬â¢s work was criticized for the number of weaknesses. Firstly, technological development, new forms of businesses and other improvements in the organization of production leaded to the alteration of employeesââ¬â¢ responsibilities, and formed new types of jobs. It was claimed by Bobic and Davis (2003), that present workers have different working settings, in the comparison to the working environment inà 1960s. Thus, it is fallaciously to regard this theory as a beneficial explanation of contemporary humansââ¬â¢ motivation. Secondly, people have a set of characteristics, which makes every person unique, and it is far too complex to distinguish them between only two groups. For example, Theory X does not take the diversity of individuals into the consideration (Miner, 2002; cited in Jastolka, 2009). Finally, McGregorââ¬â¢s hypothesis is mostly founded on Maslowââ¬â¢s hierarchy of needs, which validity is criticized (Heylighen, 1992; cited in Bobic and Davis, 2003). Furthermore, Maslowââ¬â¢s work was based on the empirical base of America, and its applicability to other countries has not been successfully proven yet. In case of China, its working environment is slightly becoming similar to Western, because in 1979 Chinese government began to implement economic policies to create an economy with capitalistic features, such as profit orientation, private owning and market forces (Francesco and Gold, 2005). Such changes significantly influenced the way, in which Chinese workers are treated by their managers, forcing them to practice methods that used in Western nations, however despite these changes, implementing of McGregorââ¬â¢s methods is hard for certain reasons. First of all, according to Francesco and Gold (2005), the management style of a country, such as China, with strong traditions and remained patriarchy, is hard to be transformed or altered. For example, Garg and Ma (2005) conducted a research, which shows the difference between frameworks of organizations. The participants of survey were three groups of firms, with different introduction of non-Chinese executives, who use Western management approaches: complete, partial and blank, and result shows a significant difference between these companies in some aspects of working conditions. In organizations with only Chinese executives, most of employees experience an unavailability of managers, lack of encouragement to be innovative and lack of support most of the time. However, it could be argued that the conditions described above could be associated with Theory X. Secondly, Chinese employees in firms function as a group where each member is working for the prosperity of the whole company (Francesco and Gold, 2005). This feature restrains the enthusiasm of workers to be innovative in their job in order to maximize the profit of his/her company, but coerce them to do their tasks conventionally, because employees are anxious to harm their firm, while Theory Y assumes that people must have more freedom. Then,à Tsui et al. (cited in Huang, 2006), argue that communist ideology force Chinese employees to make efforts in their work to the favor of the commune. Finally, due to the listed characteristics most of the Chinese managers use commune-based leadership style. This means that Chinese workers are mostly dependent on their command and thus it is more appropriate to implement the ideas of Theory X in Chinese organizations (Jackson and Bak, 1998; cited in Huang, 2006). However, an interview made by Jamal and Xie (1991), shows that satisfaction and motivation of employees are in direct relationship to managersââ¬â¢ level of participation. To sum up, both Theory X and Theory Y have been successfully adopted in Western and some of the developing countries. With regard to China, which economy type has changed only 30 years before and traditional values of Chinese people remain fundamental, which in turn reduce the probability of prosperous adaptation of McGregorââ¬â¢s ideas. Comparing both theories, Theory X is more applicable to China than Theory Y, because of traditional command-style of leadership. However, in spite of the number of successful implementations of these approaches in completely Chinese organizations, with the goal to maximize the profit of a company, the applying of methods, which reflect the nature of a worker in China, who is different from the Western employee is preferable to McGregorââ¬â¢s work.

Media fandom in American movies Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Media fandom in American movies - Essay Example They also discuss their affection about the movies and build interpretive communities around a particular media. With reference to the numerous moneymaking takeoffs of Star Wars as a recap that such imaginative adaptation of science fiction motion picture and television are not, and maybe never were, limited to fan art, music, and literature. However, they have turn out to be a more and more central feature of how modern popular culture functions. In most cases, fan adoption and revolution of media content becomes relegated or mysterious, and it is regarded as a leisure activity. The hypothesis appears to be made that any person who would capitalize so much artistic and expressive energy into the mass culture products must certainly have a defect (Abercrombie and Longhurst 62). This paper takes its standpoint with an anterior motive and in support of the media fans who have revolutionize the media, as their cultural ways have proved as important factors in the digital cinema drive. If many supporters of digital cinema partake to democratize cultural inventions, to adopt mass resourcefulness by creating avenues for the implementation of media production and dissemination to an extensive segment of the public, then the fast explosion of fan-created Star Wars films possibly will embody a noteworthy early success story with regard to that association. Force Flicks, which is one of the databases for fan film creation, lists nearly 300 amateur-made Star Wars films presently in transmission on the web, and recognizes an even bigger number of similar works. There is an incredible assortment of theme, tactic, and quality embodied in this example of the existing state of unprofessional digital cinematography (Brooker 110). Some of the flicks have established massive trendy followings. For instance, the online book vendor, Amazon.com, announces that transactions ââ¬Å"George Lucas in Loveâ⬠were overtaking ââ¬Å"The

Ethical Issues in Information Systems Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Ethical Issues in Information Systems - Essay Example The issue has also posed a problem of accountability for the consequences of information systems and set standards to safeguard system quality. The extensive use of internet technology has posed new challenges for the safeguarding of individual privacy. Information set over the vast network may have to go through many different computer systems prior to reaching the intended recipient. Each of the systems can monitor, capture, and store the information that go through it. The new technologies can allow a person to record all online activities and Internet usage of employees, customers (both potential and existing), and the general mass around the globe. In most cases, the people do not know that their activities are carefully monitored (Zhang, 2011). The organizations can use cookies, web bugs, spyware and other intrusive software to spy on people (Williams, 2002). The U.S. has allowed organizations to collect transaction information via systems for the sole purpose of marketing. However, user privacy during interaction with websites needs protection. Thus, technical solutions exist for this purpose. Many specialized tools offer encryption of email and surfing activities to make the online activities anonymous. Others allow the client computers to reject cookies. Still, other devices detect and eliminate spyware. Some tools also help users to determine the type of personal data that websites can extract. The technological tools are helpful since they ensure that personal data of the user does not leak all over the network. Modern information systems have challenged current laws and social properties that safeguard private intellectual property. According to Williams (20020, it is because ill-intentioned persons can easily copy and distribute computerized information. Unlike physical media (like books, CDs, and journals), digital media is easy to replicate, transmit,

The report on SLA Ltd - Essay Example The comparison would help in assessing the performance of the company within the two periods and would help in pin-pointing the areas which need proper attention from SBLââ¬â¢s management. Following the analysis of SBLââ¬â¢s financial performance and after addressing the problems face by SBL, a detailed plan of action would be recommended along with a formal conclusion that would augment the entire appraisal of the companyââ¬â¢s performance The positives for SBL An independent review carried out by members of our company (Drake Management Consultants) reflected that SBLââ¬â¢s financial problems have improved in the recent ending year as compared to the prior year, with respect to profitability. The company improved on its profitability and this was assessed by using the profitability ratios. The main aim of profitability ratios is to analyse the efficiency of a companyââ¬â¢s operations and the policies that the company has abided by in order to achieve the recent finan cial performance displayed within the financial statements. As per the profitability ratios, the performance of SBL has been exquisite. The profitability ratios clearly suggest that the company has improved their profit figure as compared to the year preceding the recently ended year. ... SBL has also restricted and brought down their operating expenses with their revenue increasing. The operating expenses as a percentage of sales have been 31.5% (Year before last) and 27.6% (Last year) (Tyran, 1993). SBLââ¬â¢s return on its investment i.e. the profit that it has been able to generate from its assets has been seeing improving results when comparing the two years. SBLââ¬â¢s return on equity has also improved by more than double to what it was in the year before last. Now this is something that can be used to persuade investors towards investing money within the company. The profitability improvements should also be considered something fruitful for the companyââ¬â¢s current owners and its employees as a sign of growth and as an indication of growth for the company. The other positive aspect for SBL is it improved Interest Cover ratio. The company has improved on its ability to pay off its interest and that too can be attributed to the improved profits that the company has been able to generate in the recent years (Financial Management, 2000). Problems faced by SBL After appraising the positives for SBL, a general evaluation of the problems faced by the company was carried out. The company has been found to be lagging behind when assessing its liquidity ratios in the two prior years. This deterioration is alarming for the company since it can lead the company towards bankruptcy. Besides the liquidity issue, the financial leverage for SBL is yet another issue which is rather agonizing for the company. As per the financial leverage ratios, SBL has gotten itself a heavy load of debt finance in order to run the

Home Health Care Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Home Health Care - Research Paper Example History: Home health care has emerged in two different forms i.e., post-acute care and social-supportive care (Kadushin & Egan, 6). Home health care was legally institutionalized in the United States post formulation of funded services such as Medicare and Medicaid legislation in 1965 with the former supporting post-acute skilled care to homebound individuals and the latter catering to preventive, skilled and unskilled care to chronically ill individuals. Prior to this, home care was not an entity of the government, but managed either by relatives or by private nurses. According to Keenan and Fanale (1989) the first home care program was started by Boston University in 1885 (qtd. in Kadushin & Egan, 6). Subsequently, home care health service has undergone many changes with respect to its scope, complexity, types of services, and other developments. Current developments: Much of the development in home health care is attributed to increasing number of chronically ill patients post industrialization and improvement in public health systems. Moreover, home care was also viewed as a cost-effective method of treatment for both patients as well as hospitals. Implementation of Medicare and Medicaid programs have boosted home care services. Kadushin and Egan reported that in the past 20 years, medicare enrollees has been around 4 million and cost of home care has been around $20.5 billion (p.18). The National Association for Home Care and Hospiceââ¬â¢s 2007 figures indicated that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services expenditure touched $2.2 trillion (p.2). According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), in 2006, about 867,100 caregivers were formally appointed by home care agencies. Role of home care services: Most of the patients requiring home care services are those requiring postoperative care or rehabilitative care; in 2006, about 21.4 percent of home care patients had

Paper of fact how the death penalty costs more than life in prison Essay
Paper of fact how the death penalty costs more than life in prison - Essay Example Thre had been 550 executions carried out since the reinstitution of the death penalty (Radelet and Borg 43). The death penalty is considered to be a method of deterrence, the primary reason for the argument for the death penalty in the 1970s centered on this debate. However, this has been denounced as a viable excuse for the death penalty as it is rarely considered as part of the cost/benefit internal discussion of an offender during the commission of a crime that would warrant a death penalty verdict. According to Radelet and Akers, as related in Radelet and Borg, ââ¬Å" in a recent survey of current and former presidents of three professional associations of criminologists (the American Society of Criminology, the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, and the Law and Society Association), 85% of the experts agreed that the empirical research on deterrence has shown that the death penalty never has been, is not, and never could be superior to long prison sentences as a deterrent to criminal violenceâ⬠(45). Therefore, deterrence is not a viable argument for the death penalty. The second argument for the death penalty is incapacitation. ... life in prison went on to commit a murder later on, and ironically, this figure turned out to be the same percentage of those 630 offenders who were discovered to be innocent of the crimes for which they had been originally sentenced to death (46). One way in which the death penalty provides context is in consideration of the nature of law and race relations. The statistics show that since the new laws have been put into place, the death penalty is far more likely to be put into place by an average of three to four times more often when the victim is white. There is a less bias when the offender is concerned, but more often it is within the racial nature of the victim (Radelet and Borg 48). The nature of law, unfortunately, has shown that race is a defining factor in the treatment of an offender, whether it be through their own race or through that of their victim. Because law is subjectively applied, race has an effect in the decisions of the judicial branch of government. In additi on, it has been very rare that anyone of any means has been sentenced to death, making the death sentence relative to the poverty of the offender (Geraghty 209). However, the best argument that has come into existence, one that covers a vast number of issues in regard to the use of the death penalty as a punitive measure, is that concerning the financial costs of the issue. One of the reasons that is often given, by a factor of 11%, in support of the death penalty is because there is a belief that a death sentence is cheaper than supporting a life sentence of incarceration. However, the estimates in 1988 for the overall costs of an execution were 3.2 million, with it costing a mere 600,000 for life in prison (Radelet and Borg 50). While these figures are more than likely very different 20

Modern Artists Joan Miro and Marcel Duchamp Essay
Modern Artists Joan Miro and Marcel Duchamp - Essay Example The essay "Modern Artists Joan Miro and Marcel Duchamp" explores Joan Miro and Marcel Duchamp and their works. Marcelââ¬â¢s artwork stands out as an artistic handy work with varied materials that make it real and fascinating to look at thereby inducing immense attention from viewers. This is because the artwork comprises of varied incorporated material not necessarily purchased by procured locally probably collecting worn out pieces of metals and other materials including threads. At a first glance, one cannot tell if the materials used entail ready available resources like copper collar, metal stand and a pulley. I also got fascinated by the work since it shows how thought major level of creativity. This is because for one to come up with a final product that encompasses fitting a painted papier- mache demisphere on velvet covered disk requires patience as well as outstanding creativity. Other intriguing encompasses the artisteââ¬â¢s blending of harmonious colors within the wh ole piece of work, which are black, white and brown. Hence, making the object appear integrated also with its settings and other parts such that it is not contrasting its varied parts together with shadow cast just close to it. This brings out the impact of visibility, which makes it exceptional compared to other pieces of work that may resemble it. Mainly, this is an artistic technique commonly associated with exceptional artists in their quest to create attention despite their worksââ¬â¢ settings or placement in a museum as in Marcelââ¬â¢s artwork. ... Based on this piece of work (completed in 1936) depicting perching parrot, I guess the artistââ¬â¢s interest encompassed making his works resemble mostly nature and other wild creatures though in an illogical manner. This is evident in the way he is capable of incorporating wild features in his work and other things like a shoe as well as hat whose original settings as expected by mere audience does not resemble what he has made through this artwork. However, the artwork is extremely intriguing, which was the reason of choosing it. Similar to Marcel, the artists has also embraced use of harmonious though having lighter shading to align adequately with the artwork settings and somehow wildly nature. The latter is evident in the way the perched by the parrot seems all through having almost close colors thus no sharp contrasting. In addition, Miroââ¬â¢s work resembles that of his counterpart Marcel through assembly of varied aspects to create a unique and an identifiable object. I n comparison with Marcelââ¬â¢s artwork, Miro seemed to have gone further into utilizing refined aspects to come up with this artwork, which are shoe, art and others like different material for engraving the map, which is diverse from the brown one protruding from the base. The reason behind choosing this artwork was due to the artistââ¬â¢s fascinating way of incorporating nature with other aspects to make the viewer deem he or she is in the wild. This is via Joan merging varied materials to come up with appears like a tree hoisting a bird in order to bring out the hidden fascination in nature and the wild. Thesis: Marcel and Joan despite their respective artworks differing in the manner of materials incorporated in

Risk management Consultant Proposal and Presentation Assignment
Risk management Consultant Proposal and Presentation - Assignment Example Rowing Diversity International Event for 2011, to be held soon. We are a team of consultants bidding for controlling the risk management factors related to this event and in this context are required to make a presentation to the organizing committee. Discussion Risk management can be defined as the process of determining the probability of an undesirable consequence connected with an action or event and then finding out the best ways to mitigate the undesirable consequences through preparation and counter measures (www.investopedia.com). Risk and its management is a very important part of any public event and one such as rowing is fraught with its own particular risks. Among these are the risks of injury or even death that can be caused by sinking and drowning. Not only are the race participants to be taken care of, but also the onlookers and rowing enthusiasts who have come to watch the competition. The US Rowing Association conducts around 150 or more rowing events of various kind s all across the USA every year and also trains the national team. It holds local, regional and national championships and also selects the US National Rowing Team to represent the country in various international rowing events. At a news conference held recently, Mayor Tom Richards announced that the City of Rochester, New York will host the Cross-Country Minority rowing races under the auspices of the US Rowing Association that that will be held in the Genesee River this year (www.whec.com). This was by no means a surprise, for the sport and the number of local enthusiasts has been growing in recent years. New York is a cosmopolitan city with people of different ethnic backgrounds, some of who are keenly interested in rowing and other water sports. Goals in the Risk Management of this Event The main objective here is to conduct the event in a safe and secure manner, protecting the lives and property of all participants and onlookers, as well as controlling risks of hazard to the n atural environment. As an event management and organizing company, we are well aware of the activities that are connected with the event and the risks posed by them. An unfortunate mishap can result in loss of life and property and overshadow the entire event. We have to plan to control every eventuality and limit or mitigate possible losses and damages. It all boils down to good thinking, organizing and implementation of an action plan, should any risks arise (Crouhy et al, 2005). Our first priority is always to look at the venue for the event and anticipate the possible risks that the holding of the event at that venue will present. Distance to the nearest hospital and fire station, as well as police precinct is taken into account. In fact we make sure that a representative of each unit is present at the venue, complete with fire brigade, police vehicle and ambulance to take care of any eventuality. In all cases, there is a fully functioning system for backup if needed. You will b e amazed to know that we even have our own bomb disposal expert on hand in case of any such device being found on ground or in the river where the event will take place. As one of the first steps, our local lab expert even checks a sample of the water in the river to ensure that it does not contain a high degree of contamination that would pose danger to onlookers or race participants. We also plan to have three fully trained lifeguards on

Animal Farm, Snowball Essay Example for Free
Animal Farm, Snowball Essay He led a revolution, became a scapegoat, and was exiled from his home lane. This person was Leon Trotsky, a Russian Marxist revolutionary. In the novel Animal Farm, Trotsky came out through a pig named Snowball. Throughout the novel, Trotsky is brought up more and more through snowball. Leon Trotsky is represented through Snowball by the many life events they had in common. Snowball was chased away from the farm and became an exile by Napoleons trained dogs. In Trotskyââ¬â¢s life, he too became an exile from his home. He sent away and banned from returning. In addition, Napoleon claimed that all the ideas that had come from Snowball were actually all his own creations. ââ¬Å"One of them all but closed his jaws on Snowballs tail, but Snowball whisked it free just in time. Then he put on an extra spurtâ⬠¦ slipped through a holeâ⬠¦ and was seen no moreâ⬠(68). This is a quote from the scene where Snowball becomes banned from the farm. After Snowball takes charge over the farm for some time, his comrade, Napoleon comes to despise him. Snowball and Napoleon never agree on anything. Napoleon did not want the animals to side with Snowball, he always argued against Snowballs ideas and was never friendly towards him. What also went on was Napoleon, showing his hatred for Snowball, examined the layouts Snowball had made for the windmill and urinated over the plans. Napoleon showed his disgust by urinating on something that was important to Snowball. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦looked closely at every detail of the plansâ⬠¦ then suddenly he [Napoleon] lifted his leg, urinated over the plans, and walked awayâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (65). Obviously the action that Napoleon just committed shows hatred for Snowball. After Snowball was gone from the farm, he became a scapegoat for Napoleon. It was suddenly Snowballs fault that the windmill had collapsed. Napoleon needed a reason for it to have fallen, and who better to blame than Snowball, that way the animals would want revenge by building a stronger one; exactly what Napoleon wanted. In addition, it was announced that Snowball had been sneaking onto the farm to steal corn, break eggs and what not. Whatever bad thing that occurred was automatically put on Snowball by Napoleon. ââ¬Å"Whenever anything went wrong it became usual to attribute it to Snowballâ⬠(88). With hardly ever any proof, Snowball was always the scapegoat. In conclusion, it is obvious how Snowball went through the events of Leon Trotskyââ¬â¢s life. From having his ideas stolen to becoming a scapegoat, he led the life of a famous revolutionary leader, though it wasnââ¬â¢t a very good life, he made a big impact on all of his comrades and will never be forgotten.
Marketing Plan Chevrolet Essay Example for Free
Marketing Plan Chevrolet Essay A performance appraisal is a review and discussion of an employees performance of assigned duties and responsibilities. The appraisal is based on results obtained by the employee in his/her job, not on the employees personality characteristics. The appraisal measures skills and accomplishments with reasonable accuracy and uniformity. It provides a way to help identify areas for performance enhancement and to help promote professional growth. It should not, however, be considered the supervisors only communication tool. Open lines of communication throughout the year help to make effective working relationships. In Chevrolet each employee is entitled to a thoughtful and careful appraisal. The success of the process depends on the supervisors willingness to complete a constructive and objective appraisal and on the employees willingness to respond to constructive suggestions and to work with the supervisor to reach future goals. In Chevrolet it is important for them to give the satisfaction of their customers as part of their business. As the company needed employees who will help them in obtaining their goals, they make sure to have excellent agents or dealers to gain more customers in market. The services which they offer to their buyers are based to the performances of their car dealers and agents who sell their products. As having an integrated performance appraisal, the Chevrolet handle their employees with a synchronization on their management that will help them to comprise more strategies, goals of the company and the right plan for them to be marketable in their business. Chevrolet has their records of their sales on their cars and the level of performances of their dealers and agents. As managing a business that needed to sell in a high cost of prices but giving customers a satisfaction and good value of their products, the company needs to check and monitor the employee who sells and market the products. Periodic reviews help the supervisors of Chevrolet gain a better understanding of each employees abil ities. The goal of the review process is to recognize achievement, to evaluate job progress, and then to design training for the further development of skills and strengths. A careful review will stimulate employeeââ¬â¢s interest and improve job performance. The review provides the employee, the supervisor, the Vice President, and Human Resources a critical, formal feedback mechanism on an annual basis; however these discussions should not be restricted solely to a formal annual review. Annually, the appropriate supervisor evaluates each employeeââ¬â¢s performance. In the case where an employee has changed jobs part-way through the appraisal period, both of the employeeââ¬â¢s supervisors during the appraisal period should submit an appraisal of the employeeââ¬â¢s performance. During the performance evaluation process, the most recent job description on file with Human Resources will be reviewed and updated if necessary, by both the employee and the supervisor. The Chevrolet employees are reviewed for a salary increase, annually. The amount of the salary increase pool of funds is recommended by the administration and approved by the Board of Trustees. The method for allocating funds is based on rewarding meritorious performance. Merit increases will be awarded on a pay-for-performance basis and are based on individual performance. When used as intended, a pay-for-performance structure achieves the goal of rewarding truly top performers with merit increases that match their achievements and contributions. These bases of performances of the employees are one way of recognizing the job that they worked hard for the company. The company wanted to increase the level of good quality services for their employees for them to have the loyalty of their customers. This reward to their dealers and agents are persuading them to enhance the ability and performances in marketing their products. The goal of Chevrolet is to give satisfaction and needs to their customers and to their future buyers. The companyââ¬â¢s Performance Appraisal can help the company to obtain the following objectives: To maintain records in order to determine compensation packages, wage structure, salaries raises, etc and to identify the strengths and weaknesses of employees to place right men on right job, to maintain and assess the potential present in a person for further growth and development, to provide a feedback to employees regarding their performance and related status, to provide a feedback to employees regarding their performance and related status. It also serves as a basis for influencing working habits of the employees and to review and retain the promotional and other training programmes. It is said that performance appraisal is an investment for the company which can be justified by following advantages: Performance Appraisal helps the supervisors to chalk out the promotion programmes for efficient employees. In this regards, inefficient workers can be dismissed or demoted in case. It can help in chalking out compensation packages for employees. Merit rating is possible through performance appraisal. Performance Appraisal tries to give worth to a performance. Compensation packages which include bonus, high salary rates, extra benefits, allowances and pre-requisites are dependent on performance appraisal. The criteria should be merit rather than seniority. The systematic procedure of performance appraisal helps the supervisors to frame training policies and programmes. It helps to analyse strengths and weaknesses of employees so that new jobs can be designed for efficient employees. It also helps in framing future development programmes. Performance Appraisal helps the supervisors to understand the validity and importance of the selection procedure. The supervisors come to know the validity and thereby the strengths and weaknesses of selection procedure. Future changes in selection methods can be made in this regard. For an organization, effective communication between employees and employers is very important. Through performance appraisal, communication can be sought for in the following ways: the employers can understand and accept skills of subordinates; the subordinates can also understand and create a trust and confidence in superiors. It also helps in maintaining cordial and congenial labor management relationship. It develops the spirit of work and boosts the morale of employees. All the above factors ensure effective communication. The Performance appraisal of the company serves as a motivation tool. Through evaluating performance of employees, a personââ¬â¢s efficiency can be determined if the targets are achieved. This very well motivates a person for better job and helps him to improve his performance in the future. Life Cycle Costing The Life cycle costing is a method of calculating the total cost of a physical asset throughout its life. Life-cycle costing is concerned with all costs of ownership and takes account of the costs incurred by an asset from its acquisition to its disposal, including design, installation, operating, and maintenance costs. There are four major benefits of Life Cycle Cost analysis and it is evaluation of competing options in purchasing, improved awareness of total costs, more accurate forecasting of cost profiles and performance trade-off against cost. When the Chevrolet is planning the acquisition of a major asset, organizations spend considerable time and effort in making an economic evaluation of the initial (capital) cost. This evaluation typically considers the required size or capacity of the item, operating performance requirements, physical appearance or image projected, the capital cost, and alternative product options. The company future costs are less visible, as they are often ââ¬Å"hiddenâ⬠within general operating expenses, but they can have a significant impact on the future viability of the organization. The scale of these costs depends on the level and frequency of usage of the asset. There are also broader environmental implications that flow from the decision to acquire a major asset. Resources are used during the creation, operation and disposal phases, with the potential to affect environmental sustainability, and there may also be direct environmental impacts. The study of these broader issues is often termed life-cycle assessment. This guide does not specifically address these broader issues but they should be part of a complete assessment of the merit of a specific project. The determination of costs is an integral part of the asset management process and is a common element of many of the asset managerââ¬â¢s tools, particularly Economic Appraisal, Financial Appraisal, Value Management, Risk Management and Demand Management. Growing pressure to achieve better outcomes from assets means that ongoing operating and maintenance costs must be considered as they consume more resources over the assetââ¬â¢s service life. Both the capital and the ongoing operating and maintenance costs must be considered wherever asset management decisions involving costs are made. This is the Life Cycle Cost approach. Quality Costing Improving quality is considered by many to be the best way to enhance customer satisfaction, to reduce manufacturing costs and to increase productivity. Any serious attempt to improve quality must take into account the costs associated with achieving quality, since nowadays it does not suffice to meet customer requirements, it must be done at the lowest possible cost as well. This can only happen by reducing the costs needed to achieve quality, and the reduction of these costs is only possible if they are identified and measured. The identification itself is not straightforward because there is no general agreement on a single broad definition of quality costs. However, according to Dale and Plunkett (1995), it is now widely accepted that quality costs are the costs incurred in the design, implementation, operation and maintenance of a quality management system, the cost of resources committed to continuous improvement, the costs of system, product and service failures, and all other necessary costs and non-value added activities required to achieve a quality product or service. Measuring and reporting these costs should be considered a critical issue for any manager who aims to achieve competitiveness in todayââ¬â¢s markets. These are costs that can be only estimated such as profits not earned because of lost customers and reduction in revenue owing to non-conformance. The importance of opportunity and intangible costs for quality costing has been recently emphasized in the literature. The practice of costing quality is the combination of two important elements: the first is to analyse the cost of each part of a process and identify areas where savings may be made; the second is the right first time approach. Of course people donââ¬â¢t just need to do things right, they need to be sure they are doing the right things. The aim of a quality costing process is to maximize quality while minimizing cost. A sound quality costing programme will measure the cost of quality; aim to control and reduce it; and, continually monitor it as a measure of progress. The process of quality costing is, on the whole, one of negative analysis instead of strengths, it looks for weaknesses. This may be a painful exercise, be prepared for that. But remember that by identifying costs you can take steps to reduce them. Ignoring ineffectiveness and poor quality is rather like the ostrich approach to management if I donââ¬â¢t see it, it wonââ¬â¢t hurt me. It is useful to bear in mind that the best business with which to compare quality costs is your own. If you introduce quality cost measurement activities twice a year you will soon have data to compare. The Chevrolet cost categories in the quality planning is one of the most important and had prioritized by the company for them to achieved customer satisfaction. The company offer products with good materials to maintain the quality but with affordable prices. The companyââ¬â¢s prevention costs support activities whose purpose is to reduce the number of defects. Chevrolet employs many techniques to prevent defects, for example statistical process control, quality engineering, training, and a variety of tools from total quality management (TQM). Prevention costs include activities relating to quality circles and statistical process control. Quality circles consist of small groups of employees that meet on a regular basis to discuss ways to improve quality. Both management and workers are included in these circles. An out of control process results in defective units and may be caused by a miscalibrated machine or some other factor. In statistical process control, workers use charts to monitor the quality of units that pass through their workstations. With these charts, workers can quickly spot processes that are out of control and that are creating defects. Problems can be immediately corrected and further defects prevented rather than waiting for an inspector to catch the defect later. Any defective parts and products should be caught as early as possible in the production process in the company. Appraisal costs, which are sometimes called inspection costs, are incurred to identify defective products before the products are shipped to customers. Unfortunately performing appraisal activates doesnt keep defects from happening again and most managers realize now that maintaining an army of inspectors is a costly and ineffective approach to quality control. Employees are increasingly being asked to be responsible for their own quality control. This approach along with designing products to be easy to manufacture properly, allows quality to be built into products rather than relying on inspections to get the defects out. Failure costs are incurred when a product fails to conform to its design specifications. Failure costs can be either internal or external. Internal failure costs result from identification of defects before they are shipped to customers. These costs include scrap, rejected products, reworking of defective units, and downtime caused by quality problem. This also experienced by the company and the more effective the companys appraisal activities the greater the chance of catching defects internally and the greater the level of internal failure costs. This is the price that is paid to avoid incurring external failure costs, which can be devastating for the company. When a defective product is delivered to customer, external failure cost is the result. External failure costs include warranty, repairs and replacements, product recalls, liability arising from legal actions against a company, and lost sales arising from a reputation for poor quality. Such costs can decimate profits. External failure costs usually give rise to another intangible cost. These intangible costs are hidden costs that involve the companys image. They can be three or four times greater than tangible costs. Missing a deadline or other quality problems can be intangible costs of quality. Internal failure costs, external failure costs and intangible costs that impair the goodwill of the company occur due to a poor quality so these costs are also known as costs of poor quality by some persons.

Change Management in Semantic Web Services
Change Management in Semantic Web Services Change Management in Semantic Web Services in Legal Domain using FSM XXM Introduction With the new paradigm of Service Oriented Computing, many enterprises attempt to utilize services as fundamental elements for developing applications/solutions as an additive layer on top of existing components. The Web Service Controller Architecture (WSCA) for service-based, enterprise-scaled business solutions provides exactly this flexibility. The design, exposure and management of services can be accomplished through a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) that supports the usage, composition and coordination of services in a loosely coupled manner. Web services appear to be particularly suitable for addressing these aspects of a SOA. Furthermore, composition languages such as BPEL add value by composing Web services and facilitating the implementation of business processes. As the SOA paradigm brings this big behavior change relying on loose coupling of services it raises new questions in the area of change management. Change management is a central aspect in any software design, but its complexity for Web services is increased by both composition languages and loose coupling. The resulting advantages like composability, autonomy, message-based communication, and the avoidance of combined compilation and binding prove to be deficiencies in this context. In this paper we discuss these elementary challenges of change management in the area of Web services (Web Service Change Management, WSCM). Currently there are no sound mechanisms and engineering principles for changing Web services and their related entities. Through analysis of a suitable scenario, specifically looking at the details of the Web service provider and consumer roles, one can identify the various problems that exist in this domain. Therefore we will start our approach with the consideration of an application scenario from the business domain of application and change management, the addition of Web services in private legal sector. An Overview of a WSCA A WSCA consists of several autonomous outsourced Web services, but acts as a virtually coherent entity. Business entities, in the form of Web services, are often geographically distributed and organizationally independent. While WSCA has a potential to introduce new business opportunities through dynamic alliances, the challenges of fully realizing a WSCA lie in managing changes during its lifecycle through Extreme X Machines (XXM). XXM: In this paper we explore the design changes as made to software projects by the useà of a formal model known as Extreme X-Machines (XXM) [5,6], whichà are based on the work of Eilenberg and Holcombe [7,8]. An XXM model describes the functionality of the software without defining exactly how this functionality is achieved. This perspective allows an analysis of functional change whilst excluding specific implementation or requirements issues. XXM are a state based model, they are intended to be used by developers as a method to designà their systems from at the top level but here, XXM are used as effectively to analyze and incorporate changes in, even addition of new web services. Each model typically consists of a set of states which correspond to screens in the final system and functions which link the screens together. The functions are typically labeled with an enabling action such as ââ¬Å"click_okâ⬠which corresponds to a user clicking the OK button. Figure depicts the architecture of a WSCA. There are two key components and two supporting components in this architecture. The key components include a WSCA schema and a WSCA instance. The two supporting components include ontology providers and Web service providers. â⬠¢ WSCA schema: A WSCA schema consists of a set of abstract services and the relationships among these services. An abstract service specifies one type of functionality provided by the Web services. They are not bounded to any concrete services. They are defined in terms of service concepts in a Web service ontology. â⬠¢WSCA instance: A WSCA instance is a composition of a set of concrete services, which instantiates a WSCA schema. It actually delivers the functionality and performance of a WSCA. â⬠¢ Ontology providers: The ontology provider manages and maintains a set of ontologies that describe the semantics of Web services. A WSCA outsources semantics from an ontology provider to build up its schema. â⬠¢ Web service providers: The Web service providers offer a set of Web services, which can be outsourced to form WSCA instances. The lifecycle of a WSCA is a series of stages through which it passes from its inception to its termination. There are four phases in a WSCA lifecycle: initiation, composition, service-orchestration and termination. The initiation phase is the first stage, where the WSCA is described at a high level. It is initiated when the owner of the WSCA establishes a need for a business objective [53]. The composition phase deals with integrating the selected Web services [42]. After this, the selected Web services are orchestrated to provide the value-added service. The termination phase occurs when the owner of the WSCA decides that the execution of the WSCA is no longer required. To materialize the concept of WSCA, the WSCA must automatically adapt to its dynamic environment, i.e., to deal with changes during its lifetime. Because of the dynamic nature of Web service infrastructure, changes should be considered as the rule and managed in a structured and systematic way [52]. Changes may be introduced by the occurrence of new market interests, new business regulation, or underlying service availability. Such changes require a corresponding modification of the WSCA structure with respect to the functionality it provides and the performance it delivers. Once a change occurs, a WSCA must react in a reasonable time and realign itself to deal with the change. This alignment must be performed in an automatic manner considering the frequent occurrence of the changes to a WSCA. By doing this, the WSCA can not only deal with unanticipated changes to the underlying services and infrastructure, but also maximize its market value, optimize functionality outsourcing, and maintain competitiveness. Problem Formulation The problem with the existing system of legal decision making process is that: There is no universal coalition body to unite the various modules of law in private sector like: A Public Interface to query for a case Online allotment of Advocates to users Judgments Union of India (to export Central Acts and Amendments) State Acts (to export State Acts and Amendments) The whole system of legal enactment starting from user query, allotment of Advocate, and referring judgments is not under a single roof. Due to inadequacy of getting the latest and updated Acts or Amendments, sometimes old acts are cited which later cause problems when the case is taken up in courts. This is a cause of embarrassment to the lawyer. In the existing System there is no spontaneous notification to the legal bodies regarding a change in the Acts. They themselves have to search for it on internet or find them in the latest issues. The problem is that they are not notified about the change in Acts automatically. Proposed Solution The need is to have an automated Legal System in India, at least at the private level. And this automation should be done with the most contemporary and best suited group of technologies. The problem uncovers the major issue of incapability of notification of changed Acts or Amendments to the related bodies. The proposed WSCA model namely LegalCosmos functions to provide a comprehensive Legal Solution that outsources the functionality from various service providers, such as WS_IndianUnionAmmendments, WS_StateActAmmendments, WS_PublicInterface, WS_AdvocateAssociation, WS_Judgments (depicted in Figure 1.2). The user in need of a legal solution makes use of the web service WS_PublicInterface and submits his, here accused, details and the details of the FIR filed by the complainant and forwards the FIR details like Case Crime No, Name, crime, date etc., to the WSCA which allots a Lawyer for the case with the help of WS_AdvocatesAssociation. An interested user (may be lawyer or a normal user) can find the details of the judgments through the WS_Judgments service. When a judgment is made the WS_Judgment web service provides the user with the copy of the order of the judgment. When these services are combined together as a WSCA, the WSCA will invoke the services on behalf of the user. There may potentially be some dependency relationship between them. These dependencies determine the composition of the services. In the case of the LegalCosmos WSCA, users do not necessarily need to provide the information for each service. The input of some services can be derived from the dependency relationship. Like in WS_AdvocateAssociation selected advocate details are directly passed to the WS-Judgments. Fig. Change Reaction for adding two new web services WS_UnionOfIndia, WS_StateActs WSCA Schema using Finite State Machine Definition: FSMis a mathematicalà model of computationà used to design bothà computer programsà andà sequential logicà circuits. It is conceived as anà abstract machineà that can be in one of a finite number ofà states. The machine is in only one state at a time; the state it is in at any given time is called theà current state. It can change from one state to another when initiated by a triggering event or condition; this is called atransition. A particular FSM is defined by a list of its states, and the triggering condition for each transition. Fig. WSCA Schema (A simple XXM) Change Management in LegalCosmos The change management in the proposed LegalCosmos WSCA primarily deals with the change in Acts in the form of Amendments. This change origins from the addition of two web services provided by the ââ¬Å"Union of Indiaâ⬠that produces amendments at the central level and the ââ¬Å"State Actsâ⬠that produces amendments at the State level. Since these changes are initiated by the outsourced service providers and incorporate an alteration in web service. They form the part of bottom up changes. The bottom-up approach for managing changes is highly dependent on the services that compose the WSCA. Therefore, it is necessary to first define the changes that occur to Web services, and then map them onto the business level. These changes include Activation changes that occur at the service level and WSCA changes that are executed at the business level. Finally, we provide rules for mapping triggering changes to their respective reactive changes. In our work, we assume that activation changes occur asynchronously. For instance, the WS_PublicInterface service may not change its data types while the activation change of unavailability is being managed. Another assumption we make is that the service is associated with a set of states. We associate each change with a transition between two states: precondition and postcondition. For example, a precondition for PIââ¬â¢s unavailability is that it was previously available and the postcondition is that it has become unavailable. Activation changes and their respective preconditions and postconditions will later be used to model changes using FSM and XXM. Fig. Activation Changes Non-Functional Changes Non-functional changes represent the dependability, usability, and trust associated with a member service. This information may be stored by a third party, the WSCA, or member services. We assume the information is stored as attributes that are maintained by an independent third party service provider. Changes to the trustworthiness of a Web service relate to the security, reputation, and privacy of a Web service. Changes in usability are dependent on the responsiveness and service cost. Finally, changes to dependability are associated with the availability and reliability of the Web service. Changes to service dependability are binary, because they represent two distinct states. For example, a service may either be available or unavailable. Alternatively, changes to service trust and usability are non-binary. For instance, service cost may assume more than two values during a member serviceââ¬â¢s lifetime. Therefore, we assume that a threshold is set and maintained by the WSCA. This threshold declares the minimum and maximum intervals of a value accepted by the WSCA. For example, the WSCA has the threshold of minimum $5 and maximum $10 for any judgment service cost. Every time a change occurs to the cost of a member judgment service, it is compared with the threshold. Only if the change exceeds the threshold, we consider that a triggering change has occurred. Note that the changes we have defined, such as changes to availability, are applicable to member services only. Once a member service is replaced, it is no longer part of the change management mechanism. For example, the e-Acts member service EA1 may become unavailable, and prompt the WSCA LegalCosmos to select an alternate e-Acts service EA2. After some time, EA1 may become available. However, since it is no longer a part of the Lega lCosmos LCS, the LegalCosmos WSCA does not manage the change in EA1. Table 6.1.1.1 summarizes the non-functional changes in Web services. Non-Functional Changes Fig. Non-Functional Changes Functional Changes Unlike non-functional changes, which are based on attributes, functional changes deal with changes to a serviceââ¬â¢s WSDL description [22]. We represent functional changes as a combined execution of a remove followed by an add. We further classify functional changes into structural and behavioral changes (Figure 6.1). Structural changes refer to the operational aspects of a Web service. For example, a structural change in a PI service can be caused by changing the operations offered to a user. Changes to the behavior of a Web service are indicated by changing its interaction with external entities. Functional changes to a member Web service occur when its WSDL description is modified. We assume these changes are initiated by the service provider. Fig. Functional Changes XXM for Existing LegalCosmos WSCA, when Functional Changes are not introduced (before the removal of e-Acts web service) The key functional changes involved here are: Removal of e-Acts web service (E-Copy of acts) shown in dashed rectangle. It has to be removed as it gives only immutable acts and does not involve latest amendments done by the Bare Acts. This causes problems to the WSCA in maintaining latest updates of the amendments and sometimes leads to false application of acts. A new web service called WS_UnionOfIndia is added to the WSCA which supplies the latest acts and amendments to WSCA. The Union of India is responsible for making and amending acts on the Central level. A new web service called WS_StateActs is added to the WSCA which supplies the latest acts and amendments to WSCA. The State Acts is responsible for making and amending acts on the State level. XXM for WSCA when Functional Changes are introduced (after the removal of e-Acts web service and addition of two new web services, WS_UnionOfIndia and WS_StateActs) Fig. The above figure shows the two newly added web services namely WS_UnionOfIndia and WS_StateActs. WSCA Changes Each activation change will initiate a WSCA change at the business layer. WSCA changes may occur at the composition and service orchestration levels of a WSCA. For instance, a Dt change in the PI service may trigger inconsistencies in the WSCA composition, such as incorrect parameter data types. Alternatively, a Da change may disrupt WSCA service orchestration. We divide the WSCA changes into composition and service orchestration. Fig. WSCA Changes at business level Mapping of Changes A Mapping specifies how changes in one layer correspond to changes in another layer [86]. These mappings must remain consistent in the presence of frequent changes. When a change occurs at the service level, the business layer must react to manage the changes. Triggering changes have a reactive impact on the business layer of the WSCA. Our approach of mapping changes is based on mapping rules. These rules are based on the activation changes and their corresponding business level changes of WSCA. Some changes may have more than one rule associated with them. The rules are depicted in the matrix shown below: Non-Functional Changes Functional Changes Detection of Activation Services Changes Algorithm 1 Change Detection Algorithm 1: ChangeDetection (Input: oldDesc, newDesc) 2: while newDesc do 3: Compare (oldDesc[Functional], newDesc[Functional]) 4: if oldDesc[Functional]!= newDesc[Functional] then 5: GenerateXXM (FunctionalXXM) 6: end if 7: Compare (oldDesc[NonFunctional], newDesc[NonFunctional]) 8: if oldDesc[NonFunctional] != newDesc[NonFunctional] then 9: Threshold = CheckThreshold (oldDesc, newDesc) 10: if Threshold then 11: GenerateFSM(NonFunctionalFSM) 12: end if 13: end if 14: end while 15: ChangeReaction (FunctionalXXM, NonFunctionalFSM) Algorithm 2 Change Reaction Algorithm 1: ChangeReaction (Input: FunctionalXXM, NonFunctionalFSM) 2: WSCAXXM = Ãâ 3: while FunctionalXXM do 4: WSCAXXM = Map (FunctionalXXM, WSCAXXM) 5: end while 6: while (NonFunctionalFSM) do 7: WSCAXXM = Map (NonFunctionalFSM, WSCAXXM) 8: end while 9: while (NonFunctionalFSM) do 10: if (WSCAXXM) then 11: Execute (WSCAXXM) 12: end if 13: end while Algorithm 13 Change Management Algorithm 1: ChangeManagement (Input: executionTime, WSCA concrete service list) 2: time = executionTime 3: while time != 0 do 4: for all each Web Service WSi in WSCA concrete service list do 5: send alive message to WSi 6: if not alive then 7: remove WSi from WSCA concrete service list 8: call (serviceSelection (abstractService (WSi))) 9: break; 10: end if 11: globalDescription = WSi servicedescription from Registry 12: if serviceDescription (WSi) not equals globalDescription then 13: remove WSi from WSCA concre

Renaisance Art Essay -- essays research papers
I have a real love for Renaissance art. The reason I chose this topic is because I took a class on art a freshman, and really enjoyed it. The book I read was ââ¬ËThe Art of the Renaissance.ââ¬â¢ After the fall of the Western Roman Empire in about the 5th century A.D., Europe remained poor and in poverty until the 11th century. By then, Europe began to grow and flourish. While surrounding countries of Italy, such as France, Spain, and England were powerful centralized nations, Italy was still full of city-sized states. à à à à à Italy was now the center of trade and manufacturing. Noble courts and wealthy people criticized artists and scholars as they saw them as non-equals. Most Italian artists and sculptors modeled what the ancient Romans did in the way of art, and literature. à à à à à Florence was the place where art had a ââ¬Ërebirthââ¬â¢, following the masterpieces of Giotto in the 13th century. In the 15th century, a man by the name of Filippo Brunelleschi had turned his idea of art into architecture. New buildings and Cathedrals were being built in Florence, and Brunelleschiââ¬â¢s amazing sense of contrast of light, classical proportions, and spatial effects made him one of the best. à à à à à Later in the 1400ââ¬â¢s there was a painter by the name of Masaccio. This amazing artist had a special was of creating 3 dimensions in all of his paintings. As time went on, more talented artists, architects, and sculptors had found thems...
Thomas Pynchons Mason & Dixon and Gravitys Rainbow :: Mason Dixon
Thomas Pynchon's Mason & Dixon and Gravity's Rainbow ....."Snow-Balls have flown their Arcs..." These words begin the wondrous passage that introduces us to the world of Thomas Pynchon's latest masterpiece, Mason & Dixon. In an obvious parody of "A screaming comes across the sky," the opening of Gravity's Rainbow, Pynchon sets the mood and pace for the rest of the novel. In contrast to the mindless pleasures, hopeless desperation, and ubiquitous death that dominate virtually every page of his apocalyptic earlier work, this novel begins with a joyful snowball fight between children on the streets of eighteenth-century Philadelphia. Indeed, the rest of the novel generally maintains this playful and happy tone. Unlike the sexually disturbed and socially displaced isolates that make up Pynchon's cast of prior heroes (or more aptly "anti-heroes"), the book focuses on the relationship of two normal men, Jeremiah Dixon and Charles Mason, who form an incredible bond of friendship. Needless to say, this has lead critics to wonder precisely what has happened to Pynchon in the last twenty years. Has marriage softened the author? Is this a "kinder, gentler" Pynchon for the nineties? To some extent, the fact that critics are still scrambling to explain the extreme differences between his previous work and Mason & Dixon may explain the relative paucity of literary criticism available on the new book to date. .....I would like to take a small first step towards a better understanding of Mason & Dixon by considering Pynchon's conception of history, a theme which is crucial to both it and Gravity's Rainbow. In spite of all the differences, Mason & Dixon remains a scathing indictment of conventional history as true to Pynchon as any of his other works. Furthermore, beyond setting the mood and providing self-parody, the opening is the first of many passages which both link the book to Gravity's Rainbow, and suggest that beneath the happy surface of the novel lie omens of a bleak future. In this context, Mason & Dixon can be read as a meditation on the era in which the technology, philosophy, politics, and economics that plague the twentieth century were just being conceived. For Pynchon, modern history has a destructive trajectory like that of a rocket, a path that begins around the time Mason and Dixon are working on their line, and ends in the nightmarish world of Gravity's Rainbow. .....Despite the fact that most of Pynchon's views remain a matter of constant debate in literary circles, scholars of Gravity's Rainbow seem to agree that Pynchon views history with a harshly skeptical postmodern eye. Speech: Universal Health Care :: Papers Argumentative Medicine Essays
Speech: Universal Health Care Topic: Universal Health Care General Purpose: To persuade. Specific Purpose: To Persuade my audience that the United States needs to adopt universal health care. Central Idea: Americans current health care system is faulty and needs to be changed to Universal Health Care for all citizens. INTRODUCTION I. Have you ever went without health insurance between jobs, or while working part time or because you just couldn?t afford it? No having health insurance is a big risk in a time where medical costs are sky high, Prescription drug prices are outrageous and when your paying your family doctor $50 for a office visit. Fifty dollars represents a full 8 hours of work for many Americans. A. Health care reform is needed in America. Service for pay medical treatment leaves uninsured citizens going without health care, or seriously in debt. B. Today I want to tell you why adopting universal health care is the answer to the question of health care reform. II. I have had many negative encounters with the health care system. A. At one time because of being a part time student and employee, I could not get insurance though my parents, my work, or my school. I was not eligible for Medicaid, and found the cost of private insurance was completely out of my budget. 1. This was a bad mistake. I was born with neutropenia, a blood disease that affects the immune system I get sick very easily, and my body has a hard time fighting off any infections and trying to stay healthy without insurance soon became impossible B. Suddenly I found myself in serious debt from missing work, doctor?s office visits, and paying outrageous prescription costs. I am still paying off medical bills for lab work, and other tests and emergency room visits. III. Today I want to discuss the reasons why our current health care system is ineffective, the benefits of changing to universal health care, and we will also look at Hawaii?

The Guardians
The Guardians by Ana Castillo, is a promising and highly recommended novel set in times when people were demonized strictly for being brown. It takes place along the borderlands and in New Mexico where it follows a strong independent woman who is on a desperate path to find her lost brother Rafa who she believes has been captured by the coyotes. The story goes into depth during undocumented times when the border was a fearful place where friends and family were frequently disappearing and woman are being raped or stolen for their organs. It shows her path towards finding her brother ot only for herself but for the sake of other loved ones. Where disfigured souls attempt to put themselves back together and search for love once lost. The story is told from four distinctive perspectives: Regina, who searches for her brother after awaiting his arrival in the United States. Gabo, Rafaââ¬â¢s 16-year-old son who becomes highly interested in gang members which give him a strong sense of belonging. Miguel, Reginaââ¬â¢s love interest who seems in search of a confidence boost to approach her. Then El Abuelo Milton, a difficult and sour viejito who pressures his grandson Miguel into action. Each character givers their own personal incite on the depth of every situation and works collectively together for readers to see the broken vision of humanity. Regina was widowed even before she actually married her fiance, and had just nicely settled into being a teacherââ¬â¢s aide and guardian of Gabo although she knew from now on life would never quite be the same. She tries to get her brother to permanently stay with her in the United States but he insists that he will only stay until he has enough money to build him and his family a house for themselves in Mexico. Regina is clearly he heart and soul of the novel, making her voice heard among the others and independently setting out on a search towards redemption. She seems to be skeptical of religious views of the church yet finds herself in a compassionate hold on people who have hurt her the most. She is secure in her own skin and acts as though she can play any role yet deep inside she needs help just as any other individual would. She commits herself to playing the role of his guardian, both mother and father, yet in reality finds it hard to commit herself to being tough towards Gabo because he has a mind of his own. She is a tough defender of her family and property to ensure that nothing happens that could have been prevented. She struggles to understand Gaboââ¬â¢s way, which applies to any parent trying to make sense of senseless teenagers. Yet she understands that even in tough times she must hold herself together to keep the closest thing she has to family from falling apart. From her ongoing search for her brother Rafa to her realization that the border treats everyone in a different way. Whether youââ¬â¢re religious views agree or differ. She seems to be a modern heroine along with the help of Miguel and Gabriel to ome upon a coyoteââ¬â¢s house in El Paso. It happens to be where the disappeared women have been forced to stay and unfortunately also the place where her brother was killed by the coyotes. Gabriel, the 16-year-old son of Rafa, Reginaââ¬â¢s brother is a hard-headed youth with a mind of his own. Set out to become Christ-like, he dreams of an eventual life in the clergy where his mind set will allow him to preach on others with the same religious view of life. With his strong life values Regina tries to talk him out of his bad choice of friends but soon comes to realize he is only searching for a brush of comfort in which he an call a group his ââ¬Å"familyâ⬠because of the one he lacks. Without Regina and his father he would be homeless and left to conquer the world on his own at such a young ago. In his desperate attempt to regain the love and care of his father him and his aunt set out on a adventure along with the help of Miguel, Miguelââ¬â¢s father Abuelo Milton and some of his gang banger friends. Him and his aunt Regina develop a strong sense of friendship while working close in the search for his father who they believe have been taken by coyotes just as his mother was seven years ago. They found her body disembellished in he desert where her organs were stolen and her body was mutilated beyond belief. Throughout the journey Gabo remains with no papers to make him legal the United States, yet the border control has no problems letting him come back and forth between Mexico and America with the help of his friends. In which Gabo eventually faces the troubles that comes along with dealing with the coyotes and the law. That ends with Gabo ââ¬Å"Making a pact with the devilâ⬠. Regina and Gabo were evidently at the heart of this story in the pursuit to find their Brother/Father. Regina started off as a widowed women who was only left with er brother and nephew. Where their voyage begins on finding their loved one rafa, the only hope they have left of having a family. Gabo goes through the roughest times on the journey for his father. Gabo faces the realness of the boarder physically and consciously where he is able to go back and forth with ease but emotionally he struggles more then anything. Living in a town so close to the border comes with its difficulties within their own community and the citizens living there and the judgment that is passed around. To only find that people have their own story behind their talk The guardians is an admirable novel that shows the accurate role of the struggles familyââ¬â¢s face everyday of living aside the borderlands. This novel shows the true story of the hardship people face on the daily basis that just over passes citizens even in your own town. Where an independent citizen can overcome her struggles to over pass the fears of life and stand strong to become a admirable member of their community. The novel conveys a unique delivery of a examination of what truly makes up a family, Where we can discover faith through the battle of conflicts emotionally and physically.
